Date Night!

We did a pretty good job getting dressed up and pretending we weren't exhausted last night :)

Today has been a really tough day battling reflux babies once again. It seems the meds worked for about a week, and was blissful while it lasted. I am glad gma C is here to witness the torture we ALL go through struggling through feeds. We have been giving her ibuprofen to help ease the back pain involved every 4 hours during feeds. Does anyone have any new recommendations? We have tried everything, and I mean everything. I appreciate all the ideas, but we need to pull out the big guns if we are going to survive. I have heard of giving a half of some dissolvable adults prevacid, but don't have the details. The pharmacy compounded adult doses into liquid for us but I think it loses it's luster too quick sitting in the fridge and that's why we are back to square one.

Let's just say as much as I am stressed about leaving all of the work and babies at home, I am looking forward to going into the clinic tomorrow for a break, ha! I will be going into work for part days this week, in-between all of the appts and chaos we have scheduled during our last week here. I still can't believe we only have a week, it's bittersweet for sure!

  1. I'm blog hopping from the Pitts Trips blog.

My sister had a serious issue with her throat and had to be on the meds your boys are on, and this is what I learned.

Yes they cut the acid, but they only cut it, there is still plenty to cause pain. But they cut it enough to interfere with digestion, which causes the stomach contents to stick around undigested, contributing to reflux! A chicken and egg thing.

There are enzymes that are pretty harmless that can help, papaya enzymes help with digestion. Keeping the entire torso and head raised during sleep, (hard enough with an adult). Not eating before sleep, again what to do when baby needs food?

Reflux is a pain and should be taken seriously, but just know that the meds are cutting the acid, but maybe just enough to be making their digestion worse. This isn't really helpful, but maybe it will open up another route for them to feel better.

  2. I talked to a friend in Minot who has 3 under 3 & another on the way (he knows Steve cuz he golfs) - their boy had bad acid reflux and they give him Probiotics ordered by their Dr.(natural enzymes) in a liquid form and he does better - because your boys were born so early, their bodies probably don't produce the natural enzymes & sometimes some are always short - i.e. called lactose intolerance when they're older! Kraig & Kaden both have to take enzymes or be careful with milk products! I nursed Kaden until he was 13 mo. & he still had the acid problem, although he's better now @ 16! Looking forward to seeing/meeting you all & the boys - I'm not sure I've seen you since you married Ben & had Brody - awful! Think of you lots! Loved babysitting you & your brother a few X - you were great/sweet kids!
